Turning Table Mountain Green

Turning Table Mountain Green Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille was present to shoot a cloud of luminous green flakes into the crowd of revelers at Tourism Ireland’s greening of Table Mountain for St Patrick's Day event.

Together with Irish Ambassador Brendan McMahon, Mayor De Lille shot a twister of green tinsel after a countdown to the 8 o'clock switch on of the lights that would turn Table Mountain green for St Patrick's Day in a salute to the work of Irish charities in South Africa.

"We enjoy a very strong relationship with Ireland and are very happy to share our mountain with the Irish on their National Day," said De Lille.

Ambassador McMahon said that there never was a better time to visit Ireland and Ireland was now calling travellers from around the world to join The Gathering in 2013 when for 365 days Ireland will celebrate its culture, people, place and heritage. In 2013 Ireland will be welcoming back Irish diaspora, their connections and anyone who has ever felt, or wanted to feel, a connection to Ireland.

The V&A Waterfront also joined in the St Patrick's Day festivities turning the Wheel of Excellence green as well as all its electronic signage throughout the Waterfront. Even the buskers went green.
