Gautengs Chairman's Report

                                                                                                               CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
November 9th 2013
A Chairde go lear…

It is that time of year again to reflect on our achievements and happenings over the past 12 months.
2013 has been a challenging one for most of us. We have had strikes and protests in South Africa. The world economy is still taking strain, however it would seem that Ireland has managed to turn the corner and things are looking up. One of the main contributors I think would be the success of “the gathering”. Everyone I have spoken to said they had a great time and that the craic was mighty. Well done Tourism Ireland for a great campaign

We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Ambassador Brendan Mc Mahon and his lovely wife Irene for their continued support. It is hard to believe that their time with us is coming to an end .they will be sorely missed.

Notwithstanding the Ambassador’s relentless drive on the business front, he always has the time to attend our events. They indeed are a great asset to us. We said goodbye to our very dear Friend Pat Mc Rann from the embassy, in fact we said goodbye to him a few times. Pat was a great friend of the ISAA and always made himself available to us and our functions.

We welcomed some new people to the Embassy; Peter Hogan, Second Secretary and his lovely wife Nicole Awford and Bob Patterson, Head of Irish Aid and his wife Karen Daysh

We were very happy to welcome a few new members to the Gauteng family: Niamh Klinkenberg  Betty and Paul Farrell and Patricia and Mike MacKey to name but a few.

We have forged an sound relationship with Fred from Enterprise Ireland  and we look forward to further collaboration to our mutual benefit

The SA Gaels. have had a great year. Beside taking teams to the Gulf Gaelic Games in Dubai, they went on to win the tournament. Well done SA Gaels we love your spirit and the excitement you bring to the organization. We are looking forward to great things next year. We will continue to support and publicize all your fundraisers.

Paul carpender, the founder of the SA Gaels is now living in Singapore and although he is very much involved he has handed over the reins to Dave Divine. Dave has taken on the job with gusto.. we had a successful Blitz and a great turnout from far and wide.
We have a very good working relationship with BISA and together we offer a comprehensive selection of events and activities for the community.

We can safely say that true to our constitution, we foster a spirit of Irish culture and hospitality in all we do. This is solely attributed to the commitment of your wonderful hard working and voluntary committee.

Breda. Is the glue that holds us all together. She goes out of her way to welcome and look after all new members. She is the voice at the end of the telephone when you call the ISAA.
John Murphy is not only the keeper of the purse but a tremendous source of knowledge and skills that help to run the organisation with responsibility and good governance.
Our annual St Patrick’s Golf Day and Hooley has secured a permanent spot on the calendar. All thanks to Pat Gaffney and his team.
Special thanks to Michelle for all the administration and planning, the Golf day runs like clockwork.

A Big thank you goes to Liz Devine from Orange print for your support and sponsorship of the flyers and printing done for us throughout the year.
Also, a big thank you to Tourism Ireland for their support and sponsorship.
I am happy that our relationship has grown in leaps and bounds and we look forward to more interaction with you in 2014. We know you have an ambitious programme planned for 2014 and we will be right behind you.
Last but not least, a big thank you to all the members, without you we would not exist. I trust you are happy with your committee and the way your organisation is run? Please communicate your wishes and ideas to us.
I know we all have such busy lives and that time is a scarce commodity, but please get involved, go on the website and contribute to the blog. We are getting a really nice build up of members on the facebook page.
Please keep it up
