WAFA - World Association of Flower Arrangers 18-22 June 2014

In a major coup, Ireland was chosen as the host nation for this prestigious international flower show, which is seen as the Olympics of flower arranging. This is the first time Ireland has hosted this spectacular event. Over 20,000 came to the show, and the show generated revenues of approximately €10 million for the local economy.

The World Flower Show is held every three years in one of the member countries of the World Association of Flower Arrangers. Previous host countries have included USA, Japan, UK, New Zealand and South Africa.

Over the 4 days, 600 leading floral artists from all 31 member countries competed at the highest level

Mandy Slabbert, Secretary of the ISAA Durban Chapter, attended the monthly floral art meeting at Westville Civic Centre where Bev Westhof, Chairlady of Durban Floral Art Club, spoke about her trip to Ireland where she came third at WAFA. (picture attached)

Two stunning stamps were made to commemorate WAFA 2014 featuring an orchid photographed using X-ray techniques were designed by Atelier David Smith (picture attached)
